Rethinking the Remodeling Experience

How does this process work?

Initial Consultation

In our initial phone conversation, we gather some preliminary information about your project. We’ll ask you some questions about the problem you’re trying to solve or other objectives, possible timeframe, and budget to determine if Blue Tree could be a good fit for you. Not every project is a fit and that is ok.

During this stage of the process you will meet our Founder & Project Manager, Brian.

Discovery Session

Next step is to schedule what we call our Discovery Session. This is when we will meet with you to gather further specific project details, including a site measure in order to build your design, budget, and presentation. This would be the best time to have your wish list prepared and share your project’s Pinterest board with us (or check out ours HERE).  The lead time for building your proposal will vary depending on our workload, but typically we can get back to our potential customers within two weeks to schedule a presentation. Once it is ready, we will contact you to schedule the presentation.

During this stage of the process you will meet our Director of Design & Construction, Steve, as well as see our Founder & Project Manager, Brian, again.

Presentation Session

The Presentation Session is the best part since that is when you get to see your project come to life. We invest a lot of time in building your project virtually and will allow you to see in color exactly what it could look like fully completed. We have found this session to be an absolutely necessary component of delivering the best possible customer experience. It is a totally no pressure meeting where we get to show off what we have designed for you.

Your project is a big deal. We don’t take that lightly.

You DON’T have to be able to see the whole project done in your head.

During this stage of the process, your project will be presented by our Director of Design & Construction, Steve, and our Founder & Project Manager, Brian.

Contract Signing

We will provide you with the time to decide if/when you are ready to move forward to next steps with us. Once you are ready, we will prepare your contract and proceed to getting the signatures out of the way so that we can get to the fun part!

Our Founder & Project Manager, Brian leads this part of the process.

Material & Product Selections

We build our project budgets and proposals to include as many components as possible to complete your project. This provides you with a more accurate “all in” budget that you can easily understand. Once you decide to work with us, we then begin to work with you to finalize your design, layouts, & selections. This is where the work is for you, however it should be exciting and fun. You can be as involved in your selections’ process as you would like, or you can give us the reins and we will gladly procure materials options for you to review. (It’s kind of fun for us too.) Our customers fit anywhere in this spectrum.

We’ve found that our customers appreciate how our design-build process eliminates the often common disconnect between customer, designer, vendors, & builder. We’re not the typical design-build company that sends a salesperson or designer that may not fully understand how all of the components of your project will fit & work together. We have the hands-on field experience to communicate how to properly execute your design with our team. If we think something won’t work for you, we will tell you.

You DON’T have to have your design all figured out. It’s what we do every day.

You DON’T have to spend your nights and weekends going out looking for cabinets, hardware, and flooring.

You DON’T have to try to figure out all the different plumbing and tile components needed for a proper custom shower build.

Project Calendar

We will do our best to present you with a project schedule, timeline, and calendar. One thing we need to communicate with this though is that this is construction. There are many moving parts and circumstances change very often. These schedule changes unfortunately almost always impact other future stages of the project. It is inevitable and it may result in schedule timelines to shift. In our experience, we do build in some extra time with the original schedule to account for where we may experience delays; and more importantly, communicate and update you regularly on what’s happening. We commit to provide the best customer experience as we communicate all along the way.

Project Preparation & Execution

Just before your project starts, we will be on site prepping your home for the project. This will entail laying floor protection for potentially affected areas, running a zip wall plastic sheeting system to contain any potentially dusty areas, and reviewing with you any furniture or accessories that may have to be temporarily relocated. We will also periodically change the air filters in your HVAC system to make sure that your air is always being cleaned. We can’t guarantee a 100% dust free experience, but we will definitely do our best for you.

During this stage of the process you will be contacted by and meet the Assistant Project Manager, Chris. The Assistant Project Manager will be your primary contact regarding day-to-day project operations and will have all of the information we’ve worked on with you up to this point.

Permits

If your project requires any local township permits, we handle the entire permit filing and inspections process.  We will also provide all of the required plans and drawings to the local township office. This is included in our services. In fact, we do a lot of projects that require permits.

Extras & Change Orders

Things happen. What matters is how it is handled. We take a lot of time and care in preparing your project budget to make sure that we don’t miss anything. Nobody likes change orders. Even us. Most of the time, unless you come to us and say “Hey can we add this in?” or for example, if we find a drain stack running down a wall you want to knock out, the budget we give you is the budget we work with. We actually love building in extra value for you as the project progresses. It makes us happy to make you happy. We understand that you are putting a significant investment into your home and we want you to feel at ease about the financial expense.

The hard part is done. Now it’s time for us to deliver your project and for you to enjoy it.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you.
